Dr. Isobe has published and presented scientific treatises over the years to many medical and surgical societies. He is the co-author with Dr. Kingsley for presentations in the U.S. and international countries regarding the vein specialty. Dr. Isobe grew up in Hawaii and received his early education in the Hawaii school system. His undergraduate studies were at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, and he completed his medical studies at the University of Iowa where he received his M.D. degree. His surgery training was under the direction of Dr. John Kirklin at the University of Alabama Medical Center in Birmingham. Dr. Isobe completed his general surgery training at UAB as well as a year of research in cardiovascular physiology. He served three years in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, assigned to the 130 General Hospital in Nuremberg, Germany. Dr. Isobe then returned to Birmingham in 1976, and he enjoyed a distinguished practice of general surgery for many years. He is married to Sheryl Nakamura Isobe, and they have four children who grew up in Birmingham. They also have four grandchildren whom Dr. Isobe and his wife enjoy a great deal. Dr. Isobe is known for his 5 A.M. daily exercise routine and his baking and gardening. Because of his distinguished career, his highly credentialed reputation, and his interest in vein disorders, Dr. Kingsley persuaded Dr. Isobe to join the Alabama Vascular and Vein Center team in 2006.

Education and Board Certification

Dr. Isobe has a Bachelor of Science Degree from Drake University, and a Doctor of Medicine Degree from the University of Iowa. His internship was completed at the Philadelphia General Hospital, and his surgery residency at the University of Alabama Medical Center in Birmingham. He is Board Certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery, having successfully completed the written and oral examinations necessary to qualify for Board Certification. He also is a Registered Vascular Technologist, RVT, completing the requirements and examinations of the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.

Dr. Isobe is licensed to practice medicine in the state of Alabama, and will soon be licensed in the state of Georgia..

Hospital Appointments

Dr. Isobe is a member of the hospital staff of Princeton Medical Center, where he practiced general surgery and was an instructor for surgical residents for many years. He also is a member of the hospital staff for Brookwood Medical Center. Nearly all of his procedures are now performed in the Alabama Vascular and Vein Center, a modern state of the art facility located in Vestavia Hills, Alabama.
